Wendel Rosen’s Infrastructure Forum
Thank you to everyone who attended Wendel Rosen’s Infrastructure Forum put on by our firm’s Construction Practice Group on October 19, 2012 at Scott’s Seafood in Oakland, California.
John Russo, former City Attorney for the City of Oakland, and current City Manager for the City of Alameda, spoke about the City of Alameda’s redevelopment plans for the former Alameda Naval Air Station, now known as Alameda Point, which closed in 1997.
Plans for the 2,675 acre area include a historic district, a residential and commercial area, a wildlife refuge, and a “working” waterfront. When completed, it is anticipated to bring in 6,000 to 9,000 permanent jobs, and a 1,000 housing units.
And, since this is the California Construction Law Blog, here’s some media trivia about the former air station: (1) The television series MythBusters conducts some of its experiments at the air station; and (2) A two-mile freeway loop was constructed at the air station for the filming of a car chase sequence for the movie The Matrix Reloaded.
